Braintree man accused of child sex abuse

A Cub Scout leader and religion teacher is facing charges of sexually abusing a child.

Michael J. Cimmino, 54, of 400 Commercial St., Braintree was arrested Saturday afternoon. He was arraigned in Quincy District Court on Monday and pleaded innocent to eight counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under the age of 14, assault with intent to rape a child and kidnapping.

The arrest came “ after police investigated a report from a minor child known to Cimmino that he was touched inappropriately while at the Cimmino’s home shortly before the disclosure,” Braintree Deputy Police Chief Russell Jenkins said.

“Additional statements by the victim led to single counts of kidnapping and assault with intent to rape a child,” Jenkins said.

Cimmino is being held at the Norfolk County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.

Judge James McGovern issued a list of conditions with which Cimmino must comply if he is released on bail. He can have no contact with the victim or the victim’s family; he cannot use drugs or alcohol and must submit to random testing, and stay away from his own home.

He is to stay away from children under 18, including his own children, and he cannot engage in work, or volunteer work with children under 18. This includes working with Boy Scouts and the Archdiocese of Boston.

The judge also ordered that Cimmino abide by any restraining orders that are issued.
