Former Pasco church youth leader pleads guilty to child abuse
By TODD LESKANIC | The Tampa Tribune
NEW PORT RICHEY - A former youth leader at a Holiday church pleaded guilty to child abuse last week, admitting that he sent a sexually explicit text message to a 14-year-old girl earlier this year.
Cecil Seay, 24, of 2405 Mirador Lane in Wesley Chapel, was sentenced to four years probation and ordered to pay $160 in restitution to the girl. He also is to stay away from the victim. Seay was granted a withhold of adjudication, meaning he will not be a convicted felon if he successfully completes probation.
Seay was a youth leader at Baypointe Church, at 5238 Mile Stretch Drive, but was fired following his arrest in April. The girl was a member of the youth group Seay supervised. At the time, authorities said the relationship between Seay and the girl had not become physical. Investigators also had no reason to believe there were more victims.
The principal of the girl's school became aware of the text message and notified the church's pastor. The pastor, Brian Brown, then called the Pasco County Sheriff's Office.
