NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- The Connecticut Supreme Court has ruled that most sealed court files detailing sexual abuse allegations by priests in the Diocese of Bridgeport should be released.

The high court ruled Friday that the documents should be unsealed, with limited exceptions. The case involves the diocese's appeal of a Waterbury Superior Court judge's ruling that thousands of pages of court files involving lawsuits against priests accused of sexual abuse be made public.

The files concern allegations of sexual abuse by as many as 23 priests in cases settled in 2001.

In December 2006, Judge Jon M. Alander decided to unseal nearly all of more than 12,000 documents that have been under seal since the diocese settled sexual abuse claims by 23 people.
