Sex abuse claims divide Bosnia
The Budapest Times - February 14, 2009
Muslim leaders and the media in Bosnia were locked in a war of words last week over allegations that an imam abused an underage girl during religion lessons. The media investigated and reported a further four cases of alleged abuse. A three-member crew from the “60 Minutes” television programme was then beaten up in an apparent revenge attack. Grand Mufti Mustafa Ceric, the leader of Bosnia’s Muslims, condemned the media for convicting the imam in their coverage. The local media was equally furious with Ceric, complaining about his refusal to criticise the beating of the TV crew and accusing him of protecting paedophiles, Balkan Insight reported.
