Christian school principal, teacher charged with assault with weapon

Charges of assault with a weapon have been slapped against a principal and a teacher at a Christian school in Elgin County over the discipline of seven pupils.

Elgin OPP said today there were complaints of excessive discipline used on the children, ages 9 and 10, at the Old Colony Christian school in Malahide Township, just east of Aylmer.

Charged with six counts of assault with a weapon is the school principal, 30-year-old Johan Penner, of Vienna.

A teacher, Anna Klassen, 41, of Bayham Township, is charged with one count of assault with a weapon.

Police released no further information about the charges.

The principal and the teacher are to next appear in court in St. Thomas on the charges on March 4.
